Circumstances of death



 

On 16 December 1944 just after 23.00 hours an German aerial attack occurred in a zone between the Hommerterweg in Hoensbroek and the coalmine Emma in Heerlen. The German planes dropped around 500 small fragmentation bombs,  the series of explosions, followed by a rain of shrapnel, inflicted several casualties upon the Dutch civilians and American soldiers in the area. Tec 5 Hudson was killed during the attack while five other members of his unit were heavily wounded.
